Barbados Island Paradise

As a vacation destination Barbados is one of the prime tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Geographical Make Up

It is the most easterly of the islands in the Lesser Antilles. Generally flat, Barbados boasts of some highland regions, Mount Hillaby being the highest point at (1,120 ft) above sea level. The island is situated in the Caribbean Sea as well as the Atlantic Ocean.

Barbados is geologically made up of coral stone and is surrounded by beautiful coral reefs making scuba diving very appealing. It is divided into eleven parishes which include St. Andrew, St. George, St. James, St. John, St. Joseph, St. Lucy, St. Michael, St. Peter, St. Phillip, St. Thomas and Christ Church.

Weather and the Seasons

The weather in Barbados is very conducive to the tourist industry. Mostly sunny and warm with refreshing winds, interspersed with rainy days and cools nights.

There are two seasons. The rainy season, generally from June to November and the dry season from December to May. The island experiences its hottest weather in summer usually between June and September but nights get cooler in the latter part of the year when the winter breezes from North America sweep across the island.


Historically, Barbados' economy has depended on sugarcane for its foreign exchange, manufacturing, tourism, offshore finance and information services have become important foreign exchange earners.
